Summer Lookbook: 31° Degrees and Over

As Canada’s abnormal humidity persists, I find myself bathing in complimentary a.c granted at my local thrift stores. Obviously, I’m not just there to soak in the crisp cold air, as I also picked up a few key pieces along the way. Dresses are something that I should generally avoid, given that I’ve amassed a sizable collection over the years. Nevertheless, I still managed to find three incredible designs that I just couldn’t say no to. In my own defense, I have been quite strict in how I thrift, so it’s been a hot minute since I picked anything at my local second-hand shop.

I’ll admit that these three looks are not the most friendly considering the weather, but they’ll do just finely in normal 22° degree humidity. I wanted to keep things flirty and fun, since we’re nearing the somewhat end of summer. Oh, and to switch things up a little, I put on a pink wig for a pop of color. I’m not totally accustomed to this hue, but it’s started to grow on me. As a note to my future self: don’t buy $30 wigs off of Amazon. This one managed to lose a significant amount of hair after two uses.

Without further ado, let’s jump ahead in this summer-inspired lookbook!

She’s Beauty, She’s Grace, Her Outfits Are All Over the Place: A Lookbook

Summer humidity gets the best of us. While we usually affiliate laziness with the lack of entertainment, we typically gloss over the fact that fashion is often cast aside. On most days, I can’t be bothered to dress up, given that I generally resort to plain basics and breathable clothing as my go-to option. What can I say? I love practicality. With that being said, I’m often disappointed with the outfits I choose to opt for each day, as I’m all always hungering for something a little extra. After all, summer (and spring) is the season for flirtatious cuts, romantic silhouettes, and lots of floral print.

This week, I decided to jazz things up by creating three looks. I’ll be totally honest with you, most of them aren’t practical for beating the summer humidity, but as the saying goes: fashion demands sacrifice. It’s also worth noting that 90% of the pieces I’m wearing are thrifted.

With further ado, let’s get started!

Spring has Sprung and so has Fashion

I have no legitimate excuses as to why this post is so late, so I’ll spare you the sob story. Today’s topic is about spring fashion, and the excitement I have in shedding my bulky winter coat. The warm season is finally upon us, and we’re one step closer to wearing mini skirts, dresses, and shorts. Of course, you’re ultimately free to wear whatever you want, but this transition period is the sweet spot between chilly and warm. I got the chance to head over to downtown Toronto in the past couple of weeks, and it would be a missed opportunity to not wear something cute.

Below, I created two cohesive outfits that are casual enough for everyday wear, but imbue a subtle sense of romanticism for those who want to celebrate spring. You may have already seen some pieces in older posts, but I guess it goes to show how versatile they are 🙂 Anywho, enjoy!

OOTD: A Collage of Thrifted Looks for the Summer

With winter officially off our backs, we can finally look forward to summer. Sure, spring is right around the cornerbut can you truly say that it’s the season of clear skies and warm weather? In my neck of the woods (that being Canada), it’s a never-ending sludge of rain, leftover slushy mud, and boisterous winds. Summer, on the other hand, is a blissful period of sunswept afternoons. Naturally, I wanted to base my next collection of OOTD to mark such as momentous occasionand what better to shop for new outfits than to go to your neighborhood thrift?

To be fair, some of the pieces shown are bought at other stores such as Aritziabut you can take care knowing that the majority of stuff I’m wearing is thrifted. Intended to be light, playful, and bright, these three outfit ideas can be worn as a casual city ensemble, a bookish look for flea markets, or ‘safari’ galavanting on a scenic hike. Pick your poison.

OOTD: A Winter Evening With a Brown Dress

First things first: I am so sorry.

I didn’t expect that I would return so late, but my excuse is a hodgepodge of Christmas planning, important family matters, and University papers. I’ll spare you the details, but expect a full-blown project in the future. I’ve been working on something big and I can’t wait to share it 🙂 For now, I’ll share an outfit I’ve worn the last time I went downtown. I was attending a ballet with a friend, so I needed something simple and elegant.

Unfortunately, with the blowing winter winds, opting for a summer dress wasn’t something worth considering. I could’ve insulated myself with a turtle neck and fleece-lined tights, but I knew it wasn’t going to be enough. Plus, I’ve done it before and I hated how stiff it felt. Luckily, I chanced upon this gorgeous sweater dress from Oak + Fort. Paired with my ASOS boots and my mom’s old leather jacket, I think this look provided a needed touch of modern contemporary in the dead of winter. Oh, I was still cold, but there’s only so much you can do if you’re attending a ballet.

What I’m Wearing:

  • Dress: Oak + Fort
  • Coat: My mom’s
  • Boots: ASOS
  • Scarf: American Eagle
  • Bag: Charles and Keith

The Neon Genesis Lookbook

Via the Anime Jinsei

Heya there!

I think it’s long overdue that I create a mini lookbook inspired by one of my fav anime series. While I’m not totally versed in the Neon Genesis Evangelion universe, I’m a sucker for its vintage, outdated aesthetic. I decided to just focus on the three main characters: Shinji, Asuka, and Rei. Honestly, I could go further and ensemble some looks for Misato, Ritsuko, or even Kaworu- but hey, all the more for Halloween, right?

For this project, I wanted to emphasize the color palettes for each of the characters: white, being Shinji; blue, being Rei, and yellow being Asuka. I feel like most Neon Gen lookbooks usually cater to blacks, bright greens, purples, and oranges- which totally makes sense. After all, our main protagonist controls an Angel dressed in the same hues. On top of that, other designer collections- such as UNDERCOVER and Yohji Yamamoto’s Ground Y- have also styled their ideas around this color palette- but I wanted to do something a bit different.

Without further ado, here is my lookbook!

Autumn fashion: the light and the dark

Winter is coming. But before that, we’ve got to make it past fall.

By far, autumn is the best season for fashion. We get to see an entourage of flannels, tweeds, plaid, and cozy knit sweaters in mass proportions. I’m sure that the aesthetic has been done to death, but I can’t help it. I too am a sucker for the ‘pumpkin spice latte’ style- which is why I’ve come up with a few outfit ideas for the months going forward.

I decided to introduce some juxtaposition- that is, with how different my outfits look in each picture. I wanted to show that you can go for something light and airy while still keeping true to those rustic, expresso tones that autumn is known for. And FYI, I’m fully aware that these aren’t the warmest ensembles- but hey, fashion demands sacrifice right?

The Chloe Sew Outfit Challenge!

After weeks upon weeks of posting, I finally summoned the courage (and energy) to do the Chloe Sew outfit challenge on my own. Initially, I got the idea from Annika Victoria, aka LittlePineNeedle on Instagram, after I saw some of her ensembles. I decided to omit the athleisure category, since I decided it deserved a post of its own. Hope You enjoy!

The Three Thrifted Musketeer…Outfits

Yes, I know. As you’ve probably already seen, I did a former blog post on a thrift haul I did a couple of weeks ago. But hey, I have a passion for second-hand items, it’s practically like breathing for me. Today, I thought I’d show you some of the favorite pieces I’ve picked up over the past couple of years. I kept things simple- and paired them with casual items in my closet. I’m sure that I could dress them up to be a bit more adventurous, but let’s focus on ‘minimalism’ for now, shall we?

The Granny-chic Blouse

What I’m wearing:

  • Jeans: Levi’s ribcage
  • Shoes: Converses

I love the pastel tones in this top. It’s kind of the blouse your grandma would wear during her ‘younger days’- and would revisit during Saturday bingo nights. I’m sure it would look great half-tucked with a white tennis skirt as well.

The Forest Rainbow Sweater

What I’m wearing:

  • Jeans: Levi’s ribcage
  • Shoes: Converses

I swear, this is the best sweater I’ve ever thrifted. It used to stretch all the way to my knees, but I decided to crop it to make it lie more flattering. The colors are so vibrant and I love the white collar on top. For some reason, it’s giving me autumn cottage-core vibes. It’s the kind of jumper your mom wore during her September road trip to a camping park.

The Fairy Blossom Blouse

What I’m wearing:

  • Pinafore: H&M
  • Shoes: Converses

This gorgeous top comes with this high-neck frill and billowing sleeves. For course, the real star of the show is the orange flower embroidery near the wrist. When I saw this beauty, I instantly got fairy core vibes. I mean, it looks like its stolen right off the Hobbit movie set for cast costumes. All I need are some elf ears and some appropriate, leather worn shoes.

The Thrifted Two

Hello there!

This is going to be a short entry, since I only picked up a couple of things at my local thrift store. As I mentioned before, I needed a few basics in my wardrobe- which included a wool skirt and a pair of canvas pants. I also bought a cropped cream turtle neck as well, but I decided not to model it. Let’s just say that photoshoot day was quite humid, and I didn’t want to throw this beauty in the laundry again.
